Welcome to the last part of our Summer! Here in the Greater Seattle Area, we are typically blessed with an almost “second Summer” that shows up in September. Each year, I cherish this last opportunity to have a Summer experience that I did not have time to squeeze into the busy season or wrap up a Summertime goal.
You might remember that I set a personal goal earlier this year—to break 100 in my golf game by Labor Day. Well, I did not quite get there … but I did get to 112. By itself, that doesn’t seem like much, but consider that I started at 140!! Yep, embarrassing, but true. On the other hand, going from 140 to 112 in three months is pretty great! I’ve learned a lot and have had a fabulous time playing golf with friends, family, and clients too.
Although I’m disappointed in myself for not meeting my personal goal, I’m learning to cut myself some slack and focus on the steps I can take. What does that mean?
Well, see the picture here? → → → → → →
I now have a practice putting green in my living room! I am determined to improve. I BELIEVE I can! (There’s my word for the year again!)
This might sound funny, but I’m also trying to apply the lessons that I’ve learned during my Summer adventures in golf to all areas of my life. Set a goal, keep trying. Goals are super important, of course, but it’s also important to track what you learn along the way. Sometimes, the lessons and the experience are arguably more important than the goal itself.
Also, some goals are unrealistic at their inception, like this one probably was. Whoops! It was motivating, of course, but a bit unrealistic to think that, as a truly novice golfer, I would reach a level that takes many golfers years to reach. Now I know! I’m looking forward to improving and, perhaps by next Summer, beating that 100 mark! I will keep at it until I do. I think that persistence is everything. What do you think?
What goals have you had that, while you may not have achieved them, taught you things you can apply elsewhere? I would love to know! Please comment below or reach out: call/text (206) 369-6240 or email sandy@exactrealtywa.com. I look forward to chatting!
