My goodness, I’m glad for a new year! Aren’t you? 2020 was a doozy. So much happening and so many changes to our regular lives!!
For me, coming into a new year is all about renewal, hope, dreams, plans, and new beginnings. But I don’t set New Year’s resolutions—stopped doing that years ago. Instead, I choose a word! Just one word. The requirements include that it must be positive, an “action” word, and widely applicable. Words like exceed, improving, and forward.
I have found that using this philosophy has been liberating and inspiring at the same time, without any of the pressure that resolutions can often produce. I apply it in all areas of my life, including work, personal, and family.
Without further ado, my word for 2021 is BELIEVE. I believe in good things happening this year, in my work, in myself, for and with my friends and family … it fits all the criteria!
I’m also excited because I’m almost seven weeks post ACL reconstruction surgery! I ruptured my left ACL (the anterior cruciate ligament that runs diagonally in the middle of the knee) in a skiing accident January 19, 2020, but didn’t have it repaired until December 2020. The recovery has gone fabulously, and I’m way ahead of the doctor’s expectations, so I am feeling very lucky and grateful. Hopefully, they’ll let me get back to golf just as the weather warms up!! 😊
What the surgery and, more specifically, the recovery has reminded me is that sometimes, you just have to go with the flow. For those of you who know me personally, that might be hard to believe! The surgeon said the exercises they have me doing are technically below my current level of strength and ability but are done in a specific order due to biology and how healing progresses. Hearing that the exercises are based on the biology of healing rather than my current ability and that doing the exercises in this order is necessary for proper long-term healing, reminded me that it’s important to go with it. So, I’m going with the flow!
